Existing Conservatory Roof Replacement Process Explained
Replacing an existing conservatory roof has become a popular choice among homeowners. During the transformation process that we provide at Solicon® Conservatory Roofs, we will remove your existing roof down to the aluminium ring beam and construct a new timber roof and rafter system using tantalised new timber, fully constructed on-site and fully bespoke by our skilled installers.. If there are any unusual or very complicated roofs, we will obtain full structural calculations to ensure the loading is correct for the structure.
Old Conservatory Polycarbonate & Glass Panel Removal
The glass or polycarbonate conservatory roof panels and all waste is removed from your house by our contractor and recycled.
Modern Construction & Conservatory Roofing Insulation
Once we have built the new roofing structure, we install a solid PIR (Polyisocyanurate) slab insulation, usually Celotex brand; once secured in place, we then install a secondary insulation quilt with many layers of both insulation and reflective foil, both very important in both trapping and deflecting extreme heat.
This is constructed of 19 layers of lightweight heat-reflective multifoil, which is fireproof, BBA approved, NHBC and LABC certified to give our customers exceptional performance and total peace of mind. This is then cross-battened again, increasing the roof’s structural integrity and allowing air space between layers for air circulation, preventing any condensation.
On this last batten, we then secure installation of the internal ceiling, which can be in light-reflecting UPVC tongue and groove panels or plasterboard and plastered. Externally the rafters are covered in an external OSB (oriented strand board), breather membrane and covered with our top-quality Tapco tiles in a colour of choice.
Improving Your Conservatories Thermal Efficiency
The final touch is a new PVC fascia board and guttering installation to accommodate the additional depth, rainwater goods, lead flashing, and under soakers to all joints. Internally there remains a choice of mood LED lighting and the option of Velux opening windows.
Our installed roofs are built up layer upon layer, from the inside skin and sealant to the finished exterior tiled surface, with as many as nine layers,* which is why we can achieve outstanding U-Values on the finished product – as low as .13W/m2K if desired.
To help you understand all this confusing jargon, the standard of .18W/m2K is twice as efficient as a cavity brick wall (.35W/m2K), so as you can see, our insulated conservatory roofs are incredibly efficient at both retaining and reflecting heat, therefore keeping you cool in summer, and warm in winter.
Why Choose Solicon® Conservatory roofs
For conservatory roofs, homeowners are investing not just in aesthetics but also in additional insulation. As a result of the increased energy efficiency, the insulation offers a longer lifespan of these new roof and roof panels, protection from the elements during winter months, and the space is much more comfortable to use regularly. We also use industry-leading products like Ecotherm and Eurocell.
A tiled conservatory roof will allow you to use the extra space throughout the year, allowing you to transform the use of your home.
A tiled or solid conservatory roof offers more privacy than a glass roof. This creates an extension that feels more like a room. Furthermore, replacing your conservatory roof is a fraction of the cost of a new conservatory. As long as the original glazing and structure is still in good condition, Solicon® Conservatory Roofs can bring a new lease of life to an old unusable room.
